Greyfriars Kirkyard Perfume Oil
I travel to Scotland every year, and Greyfriars Kirkyard is always on the list — a historic cemetery, just off the Royal Mile in the heart of Edinburgh, steeped in centuries of history and folklore. Most visitors know it as the resting place of Greyfriars Bobby, the loyal Skye Terrier who guarded his owner’s grave for fourteen years. Fewer linger near the Black Mausoleum, where Sir George Mackenzie — the ‘Bluidy Mackenzie’ who persecuted the Covenanters in the 17th century, is said to still haunt the kirkyard as a restless, sometimes violent poltergeist. Visitors report cold spots, whispers and unexplained disturbances near his tomb to this day.
This scent captures that place: cedarwood, vetiver and Indonesian teakwood for the old stone and damp earth, star jasmine and a touch of scotch whisky and clove for Edinburgh itself, green moss and rain-soaked ground for the kirkyard after a storm, with musty undertones of old books and antique wood beneath it all.
